Intuitive Korean Input Device for Seniors
IKIDS: Intuitive Korean Input Device for Seniors
Our second project is the IKIDS: Intuitive Korean Input Device for Seniors. Most keyboards in existence are not so intuitive when it comes to why the characters are where they are. This makes them harder to learn to type on. We aim to combat this problem by creating an input device that allows the user to "draw" the character on the 3x3 square and press enter to send the input. We aim to keep the price as low as possible through Elite-C and Pro Micro compatibility. The 3x3 square will have per-key LEDs, allowing the user to see what squares are activated. Powered by QMK, you will even be able to use this as a macropad. The project is available in GitHub.
IKIDS Week 1 update #1 4/13/21:
Created PCB Schematics
Created PCB
Created firmware. Currently supports Korean characters ONLY, along with 9 hardcoded macros.
TODO:
Add LED support to firmware
Add English and basic punctuation support to firmware
Create case and plate
Make prototypes
Case design
A truly screwless case was designed. The case has only one component, and thus keeps the manufacturing costs down. The normal version of this case will be 3d printed. However, we will also offer a more premium CNC aluminum option.
